The Man Who Walked Between the Towers

The Man Who Walked Between the Towers is a modern interpretation of Philippe Petit's grand tour across the high wire that stretched across the twin towers of the World Trade Center in 1974 and is based on the children's book written by Gerstein. While I don't agree that doing something illegal is glamorous, the show does prove to be a beautiful tribute to one of our nations most prized landmarks and symbols of freedom. Sadly, in 2001 they were destroyed and our very foundation was shaken. Paule Turner, creator of this dance piece uses the dance to show the confusion and turmoil of that terrible day in history when record 9-1-1 calls were made to surrounding local rescue, fire, & police squads. Dance Extensions, the college based Dance Company, does a fabulous job of portraying the different emotions of each point in history whether it is the fun happy times in Central Park in the 70's, the mysterious and suspenseful break-in of Philippe, to the numbness and confusion of 9/11.

The 8 dancers from the Dance Workshop Company added the necessary innocence to the show. They were so small and remember the event more like a dream than something terrible that really happened. The truth is, they are the future and as Paule Turner expresses so lovely, they will carry us on! It will be they who can heal the wounds.
If you have time this weekend, it is just such a beautiful, thought-provoking, conversation-starting piece that I invite you to come and see it. Even children can sit- there are colors, movements, lights, narration... It is a masterpiece!

The insight that our girls have gained is spectacular and this has been such an awesome experience! We are very proud of all 8 Dance By Debra DiNote students who performed. They are STARS!

Congratulations girls!
